My career in architectural and interior design started in 1985 when — with a keen interest but no formal training — I designed and managed the construction of the passive solar house that I still call home. With a new appreciation of the challenges of such a project, I wanted to increase my competency and knowledge. I completed the Architectural Technology curriculum at CPCC where I focused on learning more about the art and science of interior design. Those skills were honed over the next ten years while working in a small architectural office. My experience includes involvement in the design process from Schematics through Construction Documents for various projects including government office buildings, courtrooms, fire stations, a bank in the Georgian style, and renovations of existing buildings into a drug treatment clinic and a county business incubator. I have also completed residential designs and drawings for contractors and homeowners.
As my interest in ecology and sustainability increased, I chose to expand my knowledge and education and completed a second Associates degree in Interior Design. I have also earned certification as a Green Accredited Professional by the Sustainable Furnishings Council. While in the 1980’s, energy conservation was the primary concern of the ecologically-minded, today our awareness has grown to include indoor air quality, resource conservation, toxic pollutants, and life-cycle costs. My goal is to design, not just for aesthetics and functionality, but for health and well-being. I would be honored to have the opportunity to assist you with your commercial or residential interior decorating/design project. Let’s talk.
